Phil and I haven’t been to Millride for a couple of years, we got fed up of the mental courses that didn’t match the weather, we figured the money was better spent going local and going for a meal, so that’s what we did. We voted with our feet and you know that there’s a lot of people like that now, people who don’t just slavishly turn up once you’ve earned a bad rep. Anyway, that’s a rant for another day, we decided to give it another go.
When there’s no wind, there is always wind at Millride, it’s a tough place to shoot at the best of times and it can be physically testing in the field with your feet higher than your ass for 20+ targets. A walk of the course brings back memories of a few favourite spots and a few new ones, there’s some work go into the course and for the first time it looks pretty balanced.
Starting on Standers isn’t the best but what the hell(ride), missed the long one and got the short one and that was pretty much the form of the day. If there had been an award for hitting 9 and 3 O’Clock then I would have won it. This sport is so cruel sometimes, I was trying to wait for the lull in the wind and shooting with it but I just couldn’t get a measure of it and I was missing by the closest of margins, it was infuriating and by the end of the field I’d pretty much had enough. I had to dig a bit deeper and stop my bottom lip hitting the deck, it certainly was my best day out and I should have had at least 35 but it wasn’t to be. That’s the best course I’ve shot at Millride for a long time so it’s now back on our map.
