Double Headers, Double The Cost

So, you may have seen some talk of all BFTA events becoming doubleheaders, I’ll come clean and say I’m not a fan and I know for a fact that they cost more to attend. Sure, the social may be a bit better but let’s just look at the numbers.

Here are this year’s Grand Prix’s, the numbers are for one man in a car, setting off at 8 am and shooting the PM session then driving home. He’s armed with a flask and cool bag of funeral paste sandwiches, he’s driving a Honda CRV.

4 Local
Here we have the Grand Prix’s as all doubleheaders, 4 of these are fairly local to him. He’s staying in a Premier Inn, he’s paid in advance, if you want Flexi, just add £20 per hotel. He’s having a mixed grill at each hotel and 2 pints.

Now. let’s imagine you are the same man but none of the events are local to you.

So, yes the social may be better but the costs aren’t and these are calculated on not driving fast and not boshing 5 pints and maxing your grill up. It also means that some regions would be excluded because they can’t do double headers and how long before it just becomes the same circuit? Personally I’d be gutted if we changed to this way of doing things, I’d never have shot at some venues and for me travelling to new places is a massive reason for going in the first place. What do you think?
